You've got a badge, a hotel near the bay and a schedule full of sessions. Then you need to know when the next big show lands, how to skip the worst of the lines, and where the team can eat after the exhibit hall closes. This guide covers San Diego Convention Center events for late 2026 and 2027: where the official calendar lives, which dates are confirmed, and the practical details first-time attendees tend to learn the hard way.
It's written by Salvatore's Cucina & Lounge, an Italian restaurant on Front Street in downtown San Diego, a 7-minute walk from the hall. So the last two sections are about dinner. Everything before that is useful whether or not you eat with us.

Where is the official San Diego Convention Center events calendar?
The official San Diego Convention Center events calendar is at visitsandiego.com/calendar, run by the building's operator. It lists every booked event in date order with its type and expected attendance, and right now it runs through September 2027.
A few things make the calendar easier to use:
- Keyword filter. Type a show name or a field (for example "cardio" or "cheer") and hit Apply.
- Spreadsheet download. The page offers the whole schedule as an Excel file, handy if you're planning travel or staffing around several shows.
- Type labels. Each listing says whether it's a Convention with Trade Show, a Meeting/Seminar, a Consumer Show, a Local Trade Show, or a Private Event.
- "Private Event" rows. Some bookings show only that label and a headcount. You'll see the dates are busy, but not who's in the building.
The calendar itself tells you to contact event organisers for the latest information. Treat it as the map, then check the organiser's site for hours, badge rules and any date changes.
What are the biggest San Diego Convention Center events in 2026 and 2027?
These are the major dates confirmed on both the Convention Center calendar and the organiser's own site as of October 2026. If a show isn't listed here, it may still be on the calendar. We've only included dates we could check against the organiser.
| Event | Dates | Who it's for | Organiser source |

| San Diego International Auto Show | Dec 31, 2026–Jan 3, 2027 | Consumer show, open to the public with a ticket | sdautoshow.com |
| TED2027 | Mar 1–4, 2027 | Conference, registration through TED | ted.com |

| San Diego Comic-Con 2027 | July 22–25, 2027 (Preview Night July 21) | Ticketed fan event | comic-con.org |
Comic-Con is in a league of its own. The Convention Center calendar expects about 135,000 attendees for the 2027 show. Badges go on sale long before the show: Comic-Con's site lists Returning Registration for 2027 on October 17, 2026 and Open Registration on November 14, 2026.
The rest of the calendar is mostly medical, science and tech meetings, plus weekend cheer, dance and martial-arts competitions. Examples include cardiology, cell biology and critical-care meetings over the winter, and chemistry and photonics meetings in late summer 2027. Check the calendar for the full run.
Which Convention Center events are open to the public?
Most San Diego Convention Center events are not open to the public. They're professional conventions where you register in advance as a member, exhibitor or industry attendee. If you're a visitor hoping to walk in, look for events labelled Consumer Show on the official calendar, such as home shows, the auto show, card shows and bridal expos. Those are built for the general public, usually with a paid ticket.
Fan conventions like Comic-Con and TwitchCon sit in between. Anyone can attend, but only with a badge or wristband bought ahead. Competitions (cheer, dance, fencing, jiu-jitsu) generally welcome family and spectators, but entry rules vary, so check the organiser's page before you go.
How busy does downtown get during a big convention?
Very busy. According to the City of San Diego Independent Budget Analyst's May 2026 review, drawing on San Diego Convention Center Corporation figures, the building hosted 92 conventions and events in fiscal year 2025. They brought in 730,165 attendees, 934,474 contracted hotel room nights and an estimated $1.57 billion in regional economic impact.
In practice, that means:
- Book the bayfront hotels early. The Marriott Marquis, the Manchester Grand Hyatt and the Hilton Bayfront sit right by the building, so they're the first choice for most attendees during a large show.
- Dinner tables go fast in the hour or two after sessions let out. Booking a few days ahead is far easier than walking around with eight colleagues at 7 PM.
- Garages and street parking tighten. The Convention Center says its own parking rates change based on event activity.
If you live locally and aren't attending, the calendar is also a good way to know which nights downtown will be crowded.
How do you pick up your badge, get there and park?
Pick up your badge early
Pick up your badge the day before the show opens if you can. Big shows run a pickup-only day to spread out the crowds. For example, Comic-Con's 2026 arrival guide opened pickup on the Tuesday before the show, with no programming that day. TwitchCon 2026 holds wristband pickup on Thursday, November 12, the day before doors open.
Bring two things: your registration confirmation with its barcode (printed, or saved on your phone so it opens without signal) and a valid photo ID. Comic-Con requires both for every attendee. Check your own show's rules, which differ by event.
Getting to the Convention Center
The building is at 111 W Harbor Drive, along the bay on the south edge of downtown. The Convention Center's getting-here page notes:
- Trolley: two MTS Trolley stops sit in front of the building.
- Airport: San Diego International is about three miles away, roughly 10–15 minutes by car or shuttle.
- On foot: the Gaslamp Quarter is right outside, and the Embarcadero on the bay side has walking paths and grassy parks.
If you're staying at one of the bayfront hotels, walking is usually faster than any car at rush hour.
Parking at the Convention Center
According to the Convention Center's parking page, there's a 1,950-vehicle underground garage beneath the building, entered from Harbor Drive. You pay when you enter, and ACE Parking sets the rates, which change with event activity. A 2,000-space structure next to the Hilton Bayfront is the main overflow, along with downtown lots and meters. For evening parking near dinner, see our guide on where to park downtown for dinner.
Plan your evenings before you land
Sessions often end around the time downtown's dinner rush starts. Make dinner reservations when you book your flight, especially for groups. If you're entertaining clients, decide early whether you want a private room. Those are the first things to go in a busy convention week.
Where can you eat near the San Diego Convention Center?
Salvatore's Cucina & Lounge is at 750 Front St in the Marina District, 0.4 miles, about a 7-minute walk from the Convention Center. It's also 5 minutes from the Marriott Marquis Marina and 7 from the Manchester Grand Hyatt. The kitchen calls its food "Modern California-Mediterranean Italian": pasta made in-house daily, local San Diego seafood, and a wine list that leans to family vintners from Tuscany, Sicily and the Central Coast.

How it fits a convention day:
- Right after sessions (Mon–Fri, 5–7 PM): happy hour at the bar and patio. $8 house wine, $6 beer, $10 classic cocktails such as a Negroni or French 75, and $12 martinis.
- Dinner: starters like the meatballs ($16) or octopus ($25) to share, pastas such as Spicy Vodka Rigatoni ($29) or Lobster Ravioli ($36), and entrées from Chicken Parmigiana ($28) to Steak Frites ($47). The full menu is online.
- After dinner (Friday and Saturday): the lounge behind the dining room becomes the Medusa Room and stays open until 2 AM. See late night downtown.
- Hours: Mon–Thu 5–11 PM, Fri 5 PM–2 AM, Sat 12 PM–2 AM, Sun 12–10 PM. If your show runs through a weekend, there's brunch Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 4 PM.
For more on the walk from the hall, the hotels and group options, see our page on the Italian restaurant near the San Diego Convention Center. If your team is based at the Hyatt, our guide to restaurants near the Manchester Grand Hyatt covers that walk.
How do you book a team or client dinner during a convention?
Choose your booking route by headcount, then lock in the date as early as you can. Here's how it works at Salvatore's:
- Under 15 guests: reserve on OpenTable like any table. Add a note about timing (for example, "coming straight from the exhibit hall").
- 15 guests or more: the events team handles it directly, so the details aren't left to the host stand on a packed night. Enquire through the private events page or at info@salvatoressandiego.com.
- The private dining room: seats 65, or 90 standing for a cocktail reception. It works for client dinners, team celebrations and post-session drinks, with custom menus and the full bar.
- A full buyout: the whole restaurant holds up to 175 guests, enough for most exhibitor parties and company dinners alongside a show.
What to have ready when you enquire: the date and a backup, a firm-ish headcount, seated or standing, start time (allow for the walk and the exhibit hall closing), and any dietary needs. Convention weeks book up first, so a two-line email now beats a perfect brief next month.
